When I hear “Jesus Christ” outside of a church setting, the “Christ” bit is rarely being used as a reverent title. “Christ” is a foreign word that has been adopted into English to distinguish the founder of Christianity, and isn’t used as a title. Similarly, people talk about “Buddha” without implying that they truly believe him to be an “Enlightened One.”“Prophet,” in contrast, is an English term that makes truth claims about its subject. |
