Joseph made a point about how in the future the majority of Americans will not be of British descent (I’m translating his comments from Spanish.) Contrary to his assertions, the majority of Americans are not of British heritage and haven’t been for quite some time. According to the U.S. Census in 2000 the majority of Americans are of German ancestry with 15.2% of the population. African Americans make up the second largest group with 12.9 percent, and Irish Americans make up the third with 10.9%. Americans of English descent come in at number 4 with a mere 8.7% of the population. I suspect that Joseph was trying to be sarcastic with his Spanish only comments. If so, both his humor and his statistics failed. |
